Retail Space

As we move ahead and sell more items, we have begun to realize that we have so very many things that eBay and Etsy, though awesome, each in their own right, may not be enough. We still have not taken the plunge (again), into a full blown store but… We have deposited our first months rent in a retail space. More to come as we open that space!

As of late, we have been offering up items in various areas of interest, a bit of medical and then switching to Militaria, then to kitchen items. The concept is to vary things as we go a bit. It isn’t totally random but then again it makes things a bit easier as we unpack treasures that had been packed away so long!

Some vintage hats are coming up soon after a few more items of military interest are listed, I am thinking Etsy would be that place for the vintage hats, eBay is getting most of the Military items.

I have also begun to consider offering up some advice on various restorations, cleanings and researching tips, if I go ahead with that I will create a category here and then link back from our main page to any articles I put together.

New addition to Home page

It has been a bit of a chore to maintain the eBay items on the Home page. For our Etsy items we have been using Etsy-mini, a little bit of java code provided us by Etsy. It works well and updates very quickly, enabling us to show what we currently have available there. eBay did not have a similar bit of script, however I found Auction Nudge . Available here , which has been Very Helpful!

So far it has worked well and I had the chance to talk with Joe, the developer, about some SEO questions as it relates to Auction Nudge and the visibility you do or do not have using a JavaScript vs hand coding the html. He is a really nice guy!

We will see how it all pans out, I think the site looks functional and shows exactly what we need to show, maybe it doesn’t have much for fancy glitz but after all we are selling Antiques and Collectibles, we want to stick to the goal.

Projects

We have made a few hummingbird perches and are looking at more sleds for Christmas time. Also found a whirlygig made by an uncle back in the late 40’s and early 50’s. and have pulled out the Christmas tree stands that were made by our family in the late 50’s. Some of these old projects are pretty sweet, who knows, maybe some of them will come up for sale or new versions might be made!

Actually we do have one of the sleds on etsy Here.

If there seems to be enough interest maybe we will make a few more.

Themes and switchers…

After looking at this blog on several devices we had seen how poorly it rendered on a few of them. Trying a theme switcher and a few other methods we were still not happy with the results.

We think this theme might just work best across devices, so many people use a phone almost exclusively now that we thought it best to ensure phones and tablets rendered the site in a usable manner, Let us know if this works better!

Welcome

Well, you have met Judah, AKA Miles Standish, the real and true owner of… well everything, or so he believes 🙂

In this section we will tell a bit about ourselves and what we are doing. Initially what started as a hobby grew into a passion, that passion fueled our hobby even more and eventually filled our lives, and our home with many enjoyable and wonderful things.

We collect all things Vintage, Antique, unusual and old as well as handcrafted items. This also created an interest in re-purposing and restorations as well as a bit of a creative spark to create unusual handmade items ourselves.

At this point in our lives we have decided to search for new homes for some of the things we have collected through the years. Really that is the goal, good homes for things we may not have displayed in quite some time, nor used or been able to appreciate. Vintage and Antique items, even cherished handmade items are not so much as owned, but kept, a stewardship if you will, where one keeps good care of something so that the next generation can see, hold, use and appreciate it. That is our goal and that is what we are doing!

Not a business as of yet, but who knows where this all might lead… in the mean time I will kick back with a cup of coffee and the camera in hand and poke around some boxes over here… well that is if Miles will move out  of the way 🙂
